The Ideal Man: A seductive and innovative Guerlain for… ideal men?
“L’Homme Idéal” denotes both in the traditional olfactory palette of male fragrances it offers and in the totally offbeat design of these advertisements and media. If “The Ideal Man” is a myth, the success of this explosive perfume is not!
“The ideal man” plays with clichés to get better noticed
Thanks to the latest campaign launched by Guerlain for “La Petite Robe Noire”, the world of perfumery had now understood that the venerable perfume house Guerlain would be ready to break habits. And indeed “The Ideal Man” released in 2014, will not be outdone!
“The Ideal Man” is totally provocative and addictive in beauty and elegance while having a deep and, relatively, subtle sense of humor. The visuals and the advertising spot will therefore be worn by the magnificent Spanish model Jon Kortajarena, while having fun and carrying in self-mockery all the superficiality of his relationships with women. Moreover the director Michel Gondry, much more accustomed to the rock universe than to the glamor of perfume, will not hesitate to add grotesque and quirky to the universe of the film “The Ideal Man” totally crazy but irresistible. , and above all endowed with a sharp marketing precision.
Make no mistake, although Guerlain organized at the time of release many pseudonyms “events” in the form of debates at the release “The Ideal Man” (the effectiveness of street marketing was formidable), it would seem although the ideal man is a myth. Whatever he wears a superb perfume and laughs at superficialities …
“The ideal man” between virile elegance and fruity delicacies
“The Ideal Man” therefore presents itself in two facets which might seem to be opposed in the first place but which nevertheless blend perfectly: racy elegance and fruity delicacy. The bottle will highlight, through its classic and square aspect, the elegance and nobility of Guerlain juices while offering the finesse of a black lacquer and a cut steel stopper reminding us of Guerlain’s passion for art. and the beautiful.
On the other hand, the fragrance offered by this precious bottle is full of surprises. Because “The Ideal Man” or the ideal man must be handsome, strong and intelligent, so these three facets will be presented in his perfume. Intelligence will be highlighted by top notes of bergamot, new freshness and mint, causing dazzling and inspiring scents very representative of alertness. Beauty will then be linked to heart notes that are both gourmet (amaretto combined with masculine and cherry) and delicately spicy (coriander, rosemary and cardamom). Finally, strength will of course be represented by the deep wakes of “L’Homme Idéal” built on woody accords and amber wood leather and patchouli married to powdery and gourmet notes of tonka bean, liquorice and vanilla.
“L’Homme Idéal” is a myth, its perfume an essential of modern perfumery as its original and powerful scents break with elegance and impertinence the traditional codes of male perfumery. Obviously “The Ideal Man” wanted to be noticed, and clearly we will soon be able to do without it!
After literally changing the landscape of perfumery in the 2010s with the inenarable La Petite Robe Noire, it had become essential to offer a chic suit to these gentlemen in search of originality. In 2014, Thierry Wasser, now appointed perfumer of the Guerlain house, will offer us L’Homme Idéal and its oriental, gourmet and woody scents.
Thierry Wasser, Guerlain and L’Homme Idéal
“I imagined this perfume as a click that will reveal all the potential of man” tells us Thierry Wasser for L’Homme Idéal. And the least we can say is that the perfumer will rely on all the most beautiful raw materials and facets to offer the “ideal man” a perfume to his measure!
Before the ‘Ideal Man, Thierry Wasser had already proposed magnificent works of reinterpretations around the great Guerlain classics, such as Shalimar, now Shalimar Souffle de Parfum, but also of course the composition of Delphine Jelk re-orchestrated in a divine Little Black Dress. This time, the proud legatee of Guerlain history and formulas, will revisit men’s perfume by mixing the best of the house’s heritage with totally surprising and unique gourmet and almond scents.
Indeed with regard to the link to the house history, Thierry Wasser does not hide his inspiration from the venerable Jicky composed by Aimé Guerlain in 1889, to create the famous almond note that crosses our ideal man through and through to offer him a very sweet treat.
“What makes the ideal man unique and recognizable is the almond inherited from Jicky, created in 1889, which testifies to the daring that reigned in the time. In L’Homme Idéal, I worked with almond in a figurative and transversal way, and no longer just suggested in the background. “& Nbsp; Thierry Wasser for Homme Idéal Guerlain.
On the other hand, the famous “amaretto” note is worked in an extremely modern way in order to combine with the different facets, with the different “qualities” one should rather say for this specific case, of our Ideal Man.
Thierry Wasser and his essence L’Homme Idéal
As we have understood, Thierry Wasser wanted to offer La Petite Robe Noire, a masculine alter ego as original as her with L’Homme Idéal. Thus our man dreamed of in perfume will be discovered around three contrasting facets, although linked together from start to finish by masculine almond notes. The idea being that each of the three facets represents a quality of this famous ideal man.
“Obviously, The Ideal Man is handsome, intelligent and strong! For these three qualifiers, three agreements created with noble and vibrant raw materials. “Guerlain pour L’Homme Idéal.
Thus the intelligence of our man will be revealed by the fresh and sparkling top notes of bergamot and rosemary accompanied by a luminous orange blossom. The heart of our man and his perfume will represent the beauty around the sensualities and delicacies of tonka bean, sugar cane, vanilla and cherry. Finally, the woody and lively depths of the Ideal Man will symbolize the strength, virility and power of our man. Amber woods, patchouli and liquorice are made more “leather” and masculine than ever to highlight the Ideal Man who, at bottom, is in each of them!
