Tonka is a gourmet fragrance in the Classics of Reminiscence collection
Like Patchouli or Amber, Tonka reveals all the precious faces of this South American bean which, although often mentioned, was rarely revealed. Tonka or the oriental delicacy that is eaten then crunched to the full … nose!
Reminiscence, perfumer Fabrice Pellegrin and tonka bean
When the precious Patchouli, Amber, and Musk were born on the borders of the 70s, the wish of the designer who dreamed of them was to magnify a raw material, if possible oriental, by making it discover in all its facets thanks to other scents. The goal was to offer a perfume that would give thanks to the product much more than it would be made to be a marketing object.
“It is the meeting of know-how and craftsmanship in search of excellence, to sublimate the material, to tame it, to seek the absolute, the quintessence. Then, create the common thread of the note, which gives the spine and its unexpected particularity. Reminiscent.
Although Patchouli was both an artistic and a commercial masterpiece, Reminiscence has never wanted to change direction in its 40 years of existence! So Tonka, like Vanilla the year before, would therefore be a fragrance that should make us discover the famous tonka bean in its finery while still using the bases of the olfactory palette proposed in 1970. A challenge that Fabrice Pellegrin took up again. Once brilliantly to offer us a joyful, bright, and gourmet Tonka.
“Combining the notes, revealing the chords, rounding off the composition, the art, and the magic of know-how give Tonka a strong signature dressed in mystery, joy, and elegance. Reminiscent of Tonka.
Warmth and delicacies for a precious Tonka fragrance
From the beautiful family of Reminiscence Classics, Tonka has kept the curved bottle but has lost a few stars on its bottle to throw them on its bright pink case better. Sober, the cabochon has changed from the original cylindrical shape into a pretty faceted steel cap.
The beautiful Tonka offers us an entry in its fresh and spicy aromas thanks to bergamot, anise, and cloves reminiscent of the bitterness of the tonka bean. Then the greediness of the honeyed notes mixed with the almond provides a gingerbread effect which the wild labdanum will reinforce. Jasmine adds its flowery opulence to this gourmet heart coated with tonka bean. The depths of vanilla and white musks illuminate this Tonka, which is meant to be deep, soft, and warm.
“A perfume where the Tonka Bean is declined in all its seams, slightly aniseed and subtly rounded off by a trace of Honey and Anise… Reminiscence tames the material, the sublime, and the sign of its imprint with Tonka. Reminiscent of Tonka.
Released in 2013, “ Tonka ”is part of the Classics Collection of the Reminiscence brand. After amber, musk, and of course the famous patchouli, it is the turn of the tonka bean to be honored. Both creative and daring, the “Tonka” fragrance amazes us and offers us almost unknown facets of her personality. “Tonka” evokes mystery, feminine sensuality, and the joy of living. Made around the tonka bean from South America, the “Tonka” fragrance is a composition signed by Fabrice Pellegrin.
Perfumer Fabrice Pellegrin reinvents the tonka bean.
To create this niche fragrance from the Classics Collection, the Réminiscence house called on the perfumer Fabrice Pellegrin. Born in Grasse, Fabrice Pellegrin is the son of a perfumer. He began his career as a perfumer with the Mane company in 1999 before joining Firmenich. Fabrice Pellegrin is a lover of natural materials and favors short formulas. Among the materials he particularly likes to work with, we note patchouli and ambrox. When asked what his inspiration is, he says, “There are many. The people I meet, the women, the music as much for its sweet melodies that remind me of oriental scents as the electronic music that I will associate with aromatic, vibrant notes … And aromatic perfume “. We owe Fabrice Pellegrin some magnificent fragrances, including “Womanity” by Thierry Mugler, “La Fille de l’Air” by Courrèges or even “Luna Blossom” by Nina Ricci.
The tonka bean, the star of the Tonka Reminiscence fragrance
Native to the Amazon rainforest, the tonka bean comes from coumarouma, a tropical tree that can grow up to 40cm high and live over 1,000 years. The tonka bean, then taking the form of a brown almond, is an element of the Brazilian teak fruit, also called “Dipteryx odorata.” In the past, there was a tendency to use the tonka bean by mixing it with snuff, which is now prohibited. Coumarin is the main substance in the tonka bean. Reduced to powder, the bean seeds are extracted using volatile solvents to obtain an absolute oil. In perfumery, the tonka bean is mainly used in fern and oriental accords. It softens the other notes while adding woody, suave, balsamic, almond, and amber tones. “Tonka” begins with the freshness of bergamot associated with the aromatic tone of anise and enhanced by cloves. Then, the heart of “Tonka” evolves towards a sweet association similar to that of a gourmet gingerbread thanks to the presence of honey, almond, jasmine, and labdanum, giving the composition its sensual aspect. Finally, the base of “Tonka” is bursting with tonka bean, combined with vanilla for a more pronounced oriental aspect. The precious nectar is contained in the signature bottle of Reminiscence. Slightly curved and adorned with stars, it offers us an ultimate part of the dream. Of jasmine and labdanum, giving the composition its sensual aspect.
