Yves Saint Laurent Belle d’Opium Eau de Parfum

Belle d’Opium, the YSL fragrance

Thirty years later, the Yves Saint-Laurent house chose to reproduce this sulfurous but global success by offering a modern version of this scandalous perfume: Belle d’Opium. Flowery, lighter, but still as addicting, Belle d’Opium will hardly go unnoticed either!

Belle d’Opium, the rebirth of the mythical perfume of Yves Saint-Laurent?

The 80s represent in perfumery the decade when perfumes were the most opulent, the most present and the most tenacious. In addition to these wakes with an exuberant personality, the communication campaigns were composed on their own scale: explosive!

This was particularly the case with Opium, which under the guise of powerful oriental accords made obvious allusions to the narcotic state in which the perfume put its chilled lovers. So much so that some countries chose not to sell it as the allusion to drugs was so explicit… This in no way prevented Opium from being one of the greatest successes of the Yves Saint-Laurent perfumery and of the perfumery of the time.

In 2010 Yves Saint-Laurent made the choice to launch his perfumed daughter: Belle d’Opium on the market. Composed this time by Honorine Blanc and Alberto Morillas, Belle d’Opium although modernized and refreshed by armfuls of white flowers, remains no less sulphurous than its Opium-scented father.

Once again, Yves Saint-Laurent stands out for Belle d’Opium by offering a suggestive advertising campaign in which Mélanie Thierry, filmed by Romain Gravas, performs a magnificent choreography while simulating… taking drugs. This is too much for the United Kingdom which decides to censor advertising… In the Opium family, we like to be noticed!

Between oriental, addictive and floral notes Belle d’Opium captivates us …

Scandalous perfume just like its famous predecessor Opium, Belle D’Opium is however much less opulent than the perfume of the 80s and proclaims itself fruity rather than oriental chypre. However, the addictive “narcotic” trademark of Opium remains in Belle d’Opium in the form of a hookah note.

Belle d’Opium opens with contrasting top notes between a fresh and invigorating note of mandarin that marries the floral sweetness of white flowers and gardenia. A pretty lily sprinkles this invigorating floral opening. The heart of Belle d’Opium hesitates between fruity and velvety notes of peach and a woody and spicy accord composed of tobacco, olibanum and pepper (the famous hookah accord). Finally patchouli, sandalwood and amber form the sensual oriental cloud of Belle d’Opium while letting themselves be transported by smoky notes which evoke both the narcotic effect of the perfume but also all the depth of its mystery. & nbsp;
