Givenchy modernizes its Gentleman
In 1952, he decided to found his own brand. Then, Hubert de Givenchy met, barely a year later, the young American actress Audrey Hepburn. A determining figure in his career, she encouraged him to get into perfumery. This was done in 1957. However, it was not until 1973 that the first male line appeared within the brand. This was followed by a male essence called Gentleman, in 1975. However, it is precisely a modernized version of this iconic juice that Givenchy delivers to us in its new Eau de Toilette Gentleman.
Gentleman, a perfume ahead of its time
For many, many years, perfumery was a factor exclusively for women. The men, for their part, sublimated their toilet with a touch of Eau de Cologne. They particularly appreciated its freshness. On the other hand, the tenacity of this product left something to be desired. Then, the actual perfume made its appearance. With a longer duration, it retains the freshness of Eaux de Cologne for a very long time. However, when Hubert de Givenchy decided to make the Gentleman perfume, he predicted that the men of his time had changed … To satisfy them, he developed a perfume that was the opposite of the too timid juices of his time. Gentleman is not a limpid and transparent fragrance. It is a seductive and daring scent, displaying a pungent, wild and elegant masculinity.
The new Gentleman Eau de Toilette
The new version of Gentleman has retained the DNA of its predecessor while giving it a touch of novelty. Once again, the idea is to stand out and Gentleman is thus considered to be an immediately identifiable perfume. Its scent begins with an intense and striking freshness. This is provided by the crunchy presence of pear, a fresh fruit, barely ripe and very vegetal. Then, Gentleman highlights one of the noblest flowers from the perfumer’s entire palette: the iris. This plant delivers here a very elegant powdery scent associated with one of the key ingredients of men’s perfumery: lavender. The smell of Gentleman thus becomes more aromatic before evolving towards more eroticism. Finally, the Eau de Toilette Gentleman is ends with a duo of leather and patchouli. On the bottle side, this perfume is presented to us in a very graphic, massive and modern design. The look of its bottle is timeless and assertive. Its neoclassical style is very elegant, simply surrounded by a black band at its center. Gentleman is available in a 50ml or 100ml version.
In recent years, perfumery seems to be making a real return to safe values. Indeed, in parallel with many new perfumes produced each year, the creators also try to highlight classic perfumery in the noble sense of the term. This sector of activity puts forward the luxury codes of the past, focusing on noble raw materials and bottles with a very couture spirit. The Givenchy brand has therefore recently chosen to reinterpret one of its greatest perfumes. The 1974 Gentleman fragrance reveals a whole new scent facet and is up to date.
The first version of the Givenchy Gentleman perfume
The house of Givenchy launched into perfumery in the 1970s. Gentleman was the third men’s fragrance to emerge within the brand, joining the essential Eau de Vetyver and Monsieur de Givenchy. With this juice, Givenchy revolutionized the world of perfumery. Indeed, until then, men turned more to more timid perfumes. It was not until the creation of Gentleman that they began to disrupt trends to become true lovers of perfume as we understand it today. Moreover, Gentleman always displays an astonishing modernity. It is a seductive juice, somewhat provocative but still elegant. He embodies the idea that we have of a wild but very civilized masculinity at the same time. Today, it addresses a new man but retains its DNA of yesteryear. It thus becomes a timeless juice.
The new Gentleman version 2017 from Givenchy
The least we can say is that Givenchy did not skimp on the means to transform its cult fragrance. Gentleman is a real reinterpretation. Its composition is totally innovative and is presented as a floral and woody juice modernizing the fern family very popular in men’s perfumery. This is a clever mix of power and softness. Its start is tender and fruity at the same time. It combines pear, pineapple and cardamom. Its heart then becomes more aromatic. It highlights one of the most popular ingredients in men’s perfumery: lavender. This Mediterranean flower is here associated with the nobility of the iris as well as the more peppery breath of the geranium. Finally, the masculinity of this juice takes over at the level of its base. Gentleman gains depth thanks to the presence of patchouli. Vanilla and leather, meanwhile, only increase its share of sensuality.
